We are absolutely delighted to chat with our lovely friend @london_artist1 Sharon Walters, Sharon is our cohost at the Love Sober Create & Thrive workshop in London Bridge 19th October - we have only a few tix left (link in my bio) Sharon is a west-London based artist who has been sober for 9 months and is a Mother of 2 and is very inspiring. She came to sobriety for health and wellness reasons and her decision to quit the booze has skyrocketed her creativity and energy and she hasn’t looked back since. Sharon has led a number of collage workshops and is an experienced artist educator of over 20 years. After graduating with a second degree, this time in Fine Art from Central St Martins in London in 2011, she has developed her practice and continued her work with community arts organisations and museums.
Both her art practice and work in the heritage sector aims to provide platforms for those under-represented in the mainstream.
Her current series ‘Seeing Ourselves’ explores identity, beauty standards and race through hand assembled collage. Using magazines and photographs she is inspired by botanical, natural beauty and urban scenes and the beauty of natural afro hair.
Her use of simple source materials, a craft scalpel and quite often an A4 cutting mat means you too can continue this craft from the comfort of your own home. Each collage is a reaffirmation of the right to ‘take up space’ even when you don’t see yourself.
